Looking Back and Looking Ahead

The off-season allows us a bit of downtime to reflect on some of the league highlights of the past year, and it gives us time to plan for our future.  Here's a look back at some of our accomplishments from 2018 and what we're most looking forward to in 2019.

Looking Back...

  • We had a 30% increase in player registrations for the 2018 season compared to 2017.  Many of these new registrations were first-time baseball players.  We're happy to provide an atmosphere that is not intimidating to new players, and the continued support of our member families shows that our commitment to player development is a shared vision.
  • Our Field 3 renovation was completed just in time for Opening Day and the result was fantastic!  The field looked great throughout the season.
  • Our first season of 10U baseball is now behind us.  The progress of our players throughout the season was noticeable and we can't wait to get this team back together with a new group of players moving up from 8U.  We were also able to create some positive relationships with other local 10U teams that should benefit our program moving forward.
  • Fall Ball is always more relaxed at the BYA.  This past season we tried a new approach - a few minutes of instruction followed by a fun game of wiffle ball.  The kids really enjoyed the weekly pickup games and it was satisfying to see them applying what they learned in practice on the field.  There's nothing better than a crisp fall evening at the ball fields with the lights on, the sun setting across the river, and the kids running around laughing and competing.
  • Our Wing Bash was a huge success and helped us raise funds that we're putting right back in to our league in the form of new programs, concession stand repairs and new equipment.

Coming up...

  • We're creating a partnership with the Positive Coaching Alliance to get our coaches exclusive training on player development and positive reinforcement.  After this training our coaches will be certified, Double-Goal Coaches and they'll be applying the PCA values and culture throughout the upcoming season.
  • A new partnership with the National Alliance for Youth Sports is allowing us to bring the Start Smart Baseball program to our league for 3-5 year-old players.  This fun, development-focused program fits perfectly with our mission and we can't wait to get it started.
